Arcadia comprises five prestigious townhouses in Melbourne’s leafy and quiet suburb of Glen Waverley. The creative concept for the interiors was ‘the classic beauty’ – a pursuit of perfection in both form and function through timeless design, grand gestures and a well-orchestrated scheme. A focus on craftsmanship and bespoke detailing were key,
surrounded by a play of curves to create ‘soft’ spaces within the rigidity of a classic townhouse context. From the massive void at the entry to the sculptural stairs at the heart of the home, the interiors have a sense of calm and stillness. As spaces move out from the stairs, a thread of white and grey neutral tones is accented by pops of intricate brass in the fixtures. As effective as the aesthetics are within these spaces, the successful design outcome was driven primarily by functionality, such as creating extra space for guests, interweaving living and kitchen zones, and blurring exteriors and
interiors through openable glass panes to bring the glorious gardens within. Throughout, the use of natural materials and high-end fittings preserves the integrity of the design to create a luxurious lifestyle setting. Dramatic and decadent, but without being ostentatious, the result is an interior design of effortless style in which one soaks in the crafted details, celebrates the soulful volumes of space, and truly feels at home.
